A Prodigy Is Born...

“When I was in nursery school, my aunt gifted me a beautiful toy harmonium. I would play all my nursery rhymes and the National Anthem on it. I would not proceed until I got the tune just right. This rare blend of talent and craving for perfection at such a tender age was distinctly noticed by my mother and she insisted that I train in classical music. Thus began my tryst with music” says Pushkar.

Pushkar started learning light music at the age of 3 years and gave his first performance at the age of seven at the Dattajayanti Festival in Pune. Since 1984 he was tutored in vocal classical music by Late Pt. Gangadharbua Pimpalkhare for eight years. He then took lessons from Shri. Vijay Koparkar (Disciple of Late Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande and Late Pt. Jeetendra Abhisheki) for about eight years. After this, Pushkar undertook advanced training under Pt.Vijay Sardeshmukh (Senior Disciple of Late Pt. Kumar Gandharva) for five years. Currently he is imbibing the research work of Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande (also a disciple of Pt. Kumar Gandharva).

A rigorous study of more than two decades with all these renowned and able Gurus has enriched him with a great fund of knowledge. “Whatever I am today has simply flown from the grace of my mother and my Gurus”, says Pushkar humbly.
